I downloaded my 1099-B information into my tax return, but TurboTax indicates that average cost basis information was not provided. What should I do?
Your cost basis is the price you paid for shares, including any sales charges, and is used to determine whether you have a capital gain or loss on shares that you exchange or redeem. If you did not exchange or redeem any shares during the year, you will not have a cost basis. Refer to your IRS Form 1099-B — Proceeds From Redemption and Exchange Transactions — to determine if average cost basis information applies to your account(s). The form was included in the year-end tax mailing that you received from Delaware Investments. If IRS Form 1099-B reports average cost basis information, you will need to manually input this information into your tax return. Due to a systems limitation, Instant Data Entry is currently unable to import this information to your tax returns. If you cannot find your IRS Form 1099-B or if you have any questions, contact our Shareholder Service Center at 800 523-1918. Representatives are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time.
I took a distribution from a Coverdell Education Savings Account but did not get the 1099-Q information. Why was this not included?
IRS Form 1099-Q is not currently available for Instant Data Entry. You will need to manually input this information into your tax return. If you cannot find your form 1099-Q or if you have any questions, contact our Shareholder Service Center at 800 523-1918. Representatives are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time.
My spouse and I have a joint account(s) at Delaware Investments, but we file individual tax returns. How do we download information from a joint account into one of our tax returns?
There is only one Social Security number associated with each of your accounts at Delaware Investments. As a result, the account information can be listed on only one tax return. You should match the Social Security number on the investment account with the Social Security number on the individual tax return. Special rules relate to those electing to file their tax returns as married filed separate. For more detailed information, please consult a tax advisor.
H&R Block At Home
What are H&R Block At Home tax preparation products?
H&R Block At Home tax preparation products are software and online applications that can assist you in the preparation and filing of your federal and state tax returns. Using H&R Block At Home products, you can import your Delaware Investments 1099 consolidated tax statement information directly into H&R Block At Home products, eliminating the need to enter the information manually. You must obtain H&R Block At Home products independently; they are not provided by Delaware Investments.
What is the difference between the Web version and desktop version of H&R Block At Home products?
You can prepare and file your taxes over the Web with H&R Block At Home Online products. E-file is included on Federal products and you can purchase State products additionally. H&R Block At Home Desktop Download allows you to prepare your taxes directly on your PC or Mac. State Products are included with some versions.
What types of accounts are not eligible to import tax information into H&R Block At Home products?
Tax-deferred accounts (such as IRAs and retirement plans), and corporate accounts are not eligible.
Which Delaware Investments accounts are eligible for the Gain and Loss feature?
Most accounts are eligible for Gain and Loss, and enrollment is on a per-account basis. Linked accounts do not automatically receive the Gain and Loss feature if one of the accounts is enrolled.
Can I download cost basis information into H&R Block At Home products?
Delaware Investments provides cost basis and acquisition date information for use in H&R Block At Home products for clients enrolled in the Gain and Loss service. Cost basis information is provided as a courtesy to our clients. However, this information may be missing or not reflect all adjustments needed to be made in order to accurately report gains or losses for tax purposes.
For securities not purchased through Delaware Investments, including securities purchased elsewhere and later transferred to Delaware Investments, cost basis information may be either missing or supplied by you.
You should verify the cost basis and acquisition date information provided in the download against your own records when determining the appropriate cost basis to be used. If the cost basis and/or acquisition date that was downloaded does not match your records or is missing, H&R Block At Home products allow you to modify any of the information that was downloaded from Delaware Investments.
Is cost basis information imported into H&R Block At Home products limited to transactions that are reported on Form 1099-B?
Yes. Transactions that are not reportable on Form 1099-B, such as options sales, will not have their associated cost basis information imported. Even though Delaware Investments may provide the cost basis and acquisition date information associated with sales transactions reported on Form 1099-B, it is your responsibility to verify and reconcile that information with Form 1099-B. Form 1099-B reports sales proceeds only and does not report gain or loss on a transaction.
Do H&R Block At Home products import wash-sale information?
No. You must check your own records to determine if you are correctly reporting any potential wash-sale transactions.
Will using H&R Block At Home products stop me from receiving my Delaware Investments 1099 consolidated tax statement in the mail?
No. You will still receive your Delaware Investments 1099 forms in the mail. The H&R Block At Home program import features are not a substitute for 1099 forms.
Can Form 1099-Q information be imported?
No, Delaware Investments does not support the import of IRS Form 1099-Q (payments from qualified education programs).
What should I do if I receive a "corrected" 1099 in the mail?
You can manually adjust your H&R Block At Home program return to reflect the "corrected" 1099 information or you can remove and re-import the data. You should review the re-imported H&R Block At Home program data against the corrected Delaware Investments 1099. Please note that the corrected 1099 is the official document sent to the IRS by Delaware Investments.
Who should I contact if I have trouble importing data into H&R Block At Home products?
What password do I use to import tax information into H&R Block At Home products?
Your password to import tax information into H&R Block At Home products is the same as your Delaware Investments password.
