About Hartford's Charitable Contributions Committee
The Lincoln Financial Foundation established its Hartford-based Charitable Contributions Committee in July, 1998. Since that time, the committee has dedicated itself to improving the quality of life in those communities throughout the Greater Hartford area where Lincoln Financial employees live and work.
In keeping with the Foundation's mission, the Hartford committee focuses its efforts on funding arts, education/workforce development, and human services programs. Since its inception, it has awarded more than $12 million to a wide range of non-profit organizations from Riverfront Recapture and Habitat for Humanity to the Hartford Public Library and the Boys & Girls Club.

Connecticut Opera Association
Lincoln Financial Foundation has partnered with Connecticut Opera Association to underwrite Opera Express, a touring ensemble that brings live Opera to classrooms throughout Connecticut and western Massachusetts. As Presenting Sponsor of Opera Express for the 20072008 school year, Lincoln Foundation aims to help expand arts education opportunities for the school children of the region.
"We're thrilled that Lincoln Financial has made such a generous commitment to maintaining and developing Opera Express," said Christopher Devlin, Opera Express music director. "With each of our operatic performances, I'm able to see the enthusiasm of children and adults alike, as they enjoy one of the great art forms. That is truly rewarding, and equally so is the fact that Lincoln Financial has made a contribution which will help ensure the future of this wonderful outreach and educational program."
The Opera Express ensemble consists of four resident artists who are young professionals at the start of their opera careers. Together with Devlin, they travel to as many as 100 schools each academic year as well as to senior centers, nursing homes and other community sites bringing age-appropriate operatic productions to thousands of children and adults.
The program has been designed in compliance with Connecticut Board of Education guidelines to supplement the arts education curriculum. Before the performance, the schools receive a study guide to help teachers prepare their students for the performance. These guides contain a synopsis of the story, warm-up and follow-up activities, a glossary of opera terms, and other exercises designed to stimulate creative thinking. Each Opera Express performance ends with a question and answer period with the music director acting as the "teacher" of the ensemble, answering questions about opera.
