About Philadelphia's Charitable Contributions Committee
The Lincoln Financial Foundation established its Philadelphia-based Charitable Contributions Committee in December 1999. The committee is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Philadelphia through responsible and responsive grantmaking efforts.
The Philadelphia Charitable Contributions Committee focuses on projects and programs that have an immediate and direct impact on the welfare and quality of life of the citizens in the city of Philadelphia, specifically in the areas of arts and culture, education/workforce development, and human services. Since 1999, the Committee has awarded more than $15 million to more than 100 non-profit organizations, including Project H.O.M.E.; Police Athletic League of Philadelphia; City Year Philadelphia; Philadelphia Futures; White Williams Scholars; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Teach For America; WHYY, Inc.; and the Philadelphia Orchestra.

The Spirit of Lincoln Financial Volunteers
From grass-roots volunteer activities to non-profit board participation, the 1100 employees of Lincoln Financial Group based in Philadelphia are proud to give back to their community in a variety of ways. Throughout the school year, LFG Corporate Center employees participate in a weekly reading program with students in Philadelphia's Vare School. The Lincoln "coaches" work with the second graders as part of the Philadelphia Reads Power Program. Each "coach" works closely with the same student each week to improve their reading skills and vocabulary. The mission of Philadelphia Reads is to ensure that all Philadelphia public school students can read independently by the end of third grade.
Six times during the year, Delaware Investment employees participate in "Jeans Day" to benefit different non-profit organizations. Contributions have included toys, clothes and money to support the different groups. Recent "Jeans Day" drives have benefited the Armed Services and the Red Cross. The employees also sponsor silent auctions to support organizations like the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Grantee Spotlight
Philadelphia Theatre Company
A Lincoln Financial Foundation grant to Philadelphia Theatre Company will be used to purchase and install technology that will make the organization's new theater accessible to special needs audiences. The funds also will support the Drama Contact program, which provides study guides and workshops, artist residencies, and free tickets to schoolchildren.
The accessibility technology for Philadelphia Theatre Company's new Suzanne Roberts Theatre, opening fall 2007, will include the most advanced assisted listening, open captioning, and audio-description technology available. It will allow the theater to set a new standard for audience comfort and accessibility, greatly enhancing Philadelphia Theatre Company's award-winning efforts to make theater going possible for audiences who are hearing impaired, deaf, visually impaired, or blind.
The grant also continues Lincoln Foundation's on-going support of Drama Contact, an education program that serves thousands of students each year in Philadelphia's public schools. A unique program of multi-visit-in-school workshops that enhance reading, writing, and communication skills, Drama Contact prepares students to experience productions of new American theater at deeply discounted and free matinees that include meet-the-artists question and answer sessions, and pre-show presentations of the lighting, sound, and design techniques used in theater.
