In this study, we combine qualitative and quantitative data to look closely at the identity of Latino-Americans — their attitudes toward finances, family, and the future — and what that reveals about opportunities to increase this group's retirement plan engagement and improve their eventual retirement outcomes.

The results show that family is central to Latino-American culture and deeply influences this group's financial planning. Yet, it's important to recognize that Latino-Americans are a tremendously diverse group that can be viewed by differences in ethnicity, age, and even language preference. Understanding key motivators for Latino-American participants may provide valuable insights to inform retirement plan-related communications and educational programs.
