AMERICAN LEGACY® SHAREHOLDER'S ADVANTAGE A-CLASS – ISSUED AFTER 11/14/2010
Saving and investing for retirement takes both advance planning and the flexibility to adapt as your needs and circumstances change over time. While there will be challenges to consider when creating your retirement plan including inflation, taxes, longevity and market volatility, one tool to help you meet these challenges and help achieve your retirement goals is a variable annuity.
Lincoln offers a variety of variable annuities to help meet the unique needs of our clients. An American Legacy® Shareholder's Advantage A-Class variable annuity is a long-term investment vehicle specifically designed for retirement savings. It offers a number of features to help you build the retirement plan that works best for you:
Options for growth potential: Variable annuities can potentially help you to outpace inflation and meet your financial goals by providing a variety of investment options with which to create a customized portfolio. Only, American Legacy® variable annuities give you access to all investment options in the American Funds Insurance Series. American Funds is one of the oldest, largest and most respected money managers in the United States, with a long-term perspective refined over 70 years of experience.
Tax deferral: Because your variable annuity assets accumulate tax-deferred, and do not have any tax consequences until you take money from your contract, it offers greater growth potential. All withdrawals are subject to ordinary income taxes and if taken before age 59 1/2, may be subject to a 10% IRS penalty.
Income: An American Legacy® variable annuity offers you many choices when you are ready to retire and begin taking income, including options that provide income for the rest of your life.
Asset protection: An American Legacy® variable annuity also offers optional protection, for an additional cost, against market volatility for both you and your beneficiaries. This allows you to take advantage of any potential gains from your investment options while receiving downside protection from market downturns. For more information about these features, see the "optional features" box.
Control and flexibility: With an American Legacy® variable annuity, you have the ability to meet your unique needs by aligning your contract with the investment options, withdrawals/income, optional benefits and level of risk that you want to assume.
Death Benefit: You can select the level of protection for your beneficiaries. Multiple death benefit options are available.
Considerations: Variable annuities are long-term contracts designed for retirement purposes. Costs for a variable annuity contract include the mortality and expense risk charge, annual contract and administrative fees and charges for the underlying funding options. A surrender charge may also apply. Election of optional features may be at an additional cost. These additional charges and expenses should be considered carefully before purchasing. The value of the annuity will fluctuate and when withdrawn, it may be worth more or less than the original premiums paid.
Why American Legacy® Shareholder's Advantage A-Class variable annuity? The American Legacy® variable annuity suite offers different options. Clients who choose the A-Class option often do so because they want the opportunity to reduce costs over time by combining an initial sales charge with lower annual expenses.
There is no additional tax deferral benefit for contracts purchased in an IRA or other tax-qualified plan, since these are already afforded tax-deferred status. Therefore, an annuity should only be purchased in an IRA or qualified plan if the client values some of the other features of the annuity and is willing to incur any additional costs associated with the annuity to receive such benefits.
