Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and … cannot long retain it. Abraham Lincoln In 2015, the Greensboro Historical Museum in Greensboro, N.C., held a special exhibit titled Emancipation Proclamation: Voices to Freedom. The highlight of this four-week exhibit was the presentation of an original 1864 edition of the Emancipation Proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln, on loan from the Lincoln Foundation Collection of the Indiana State Museum. As part of the Lincoln's Legacy initiative, the Lincoln Financial Foundation arranged for this rare document and other Lincoln artifacts, including an inkwell and images from the Lincoln family album, to be loaned to the Greensboro Historical Museum for the exhibit.
